Barista

EastLake Church (Chula Vista, CA)

Department: Alcove Community Coffee

Reports To: Ninette Aguinaldo

Hours: Up to 10 Hours/Week

  • Sunday: 8:30am - 2:30pm
  • Monday - Saturday: As scheduled

Level: Hourly NON-EXEMPT / $16 hour

Status: Part-Time

General Functions:

Making and serving beverages such as coffee, tea, and specialty beverages. Taking customer orders and payments. Cleaning and sanitizing work areas, seating areas, and equipment/tools. Building customer loyalty and meeting sales and financial goals.

Supervision Received:

Reports directly to the Coffee Truck Coordinator.

  • PEOPLE & CULTURE: Communicate proactively, professionally, and positively with team and guests. Confront, diffuse, and resolve difficult situations in a proactive, objective, and solution-oriented manner.
  • BEVERAGE QUALITY: Meet drink standards and serve beverages in a timely manner.
  • HEALTH & SAFETY: Meet cleanliness standards and ensure that all safety protocols are followed.
  • HOSPITALITY: Cultivate and create an environment that is passionate about hospitality. Build relationships with guests by communicating warmly and authentically. Seek opportunities to engage with guests. Deliver timely, professional, and knowledgeable service. Exceed guest expectations.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and serve beverages consistently with latte art.
  • Make beverages according to recipe specifications.
  • Create a welcoming and one-of-a-kind experience for guests and resolve all guest complaints.
  • Be knowledgeable about our coffee and other items on the menu.
  • Receive orders and process payments in the POS system.
  • Stock and set up all necessary products for daily execution.
  • Execute daily checklist.
  • Maintain a clean and sanitary work environment.
  • Work with management on orders for all needed products.
  • Maintain health standards.

Qualifications:

  • Previous work experience as a barista or in food service.
  • People skills: Dealing with the public and team proactively, professionally, and positively.
  • Experience working with manual espresso machines.
  • Latte art experience.
  • Point of sale knowledge.
  • Must be up to date with health code regulations.
  • Capable of maintaining a clean and inviting work environment.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule.
  • Must be available to work weekends and some holidays.
  • Capable of multi-tasking and problem-solving.
  • Excellent communication skills.

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:

  1. In-person.
  2. Overtime hours, as required by the ministry needs.
  3. Church staff is required to abide by the Cultural Expectations (tithe, attendance, conduct, etc.).

  • As a staff person at Eastlake Community Church, I agree to abide by all the provisions of the Employee Handbook.
  • The Church reserves the right, at any time, with or without notice, to alter or change job responsibilities, reassign or transfer job positions, or assign additional job responsibilities.
  • This position is classified by the Church as a PART-TIME paid position and is non-exempt from the overtime provisions, as stated in Employee Handbook.
